Have you ever been in a situation where you were feeling happy or even sad, but didn't know how to express yourself? Often, people turn to music to express their feelings. Whether it is joy, love, anger, or sadness, music allows us to connect and express our feelings that are hard to put into words.
Music is more than just a collection of sounds put together in such a way that creates something beautiful. In CNAC 12.1.14, it states, “
…music expresses and imparts courage, strength, and confidence. In times of sadness and hardship, music can provide comfort.” Music is a way for us to connect and express our feelings to the almighty God in any situation.
We can look at many people in the Bible who used music as a tool to express their feelings to the Lord.
- David wrote multiple psalms to express his feelings of thankfulness, fear, anger, and sadness.
- Paul and Silas, while in prison, were praying and singing hymns to God (Acts 16:25).
- Mary sang a song praising God who had chosen her to bear the Messiah (Luke 1:46-55).
The common factor among all these individuals was that they not only expressed their feelings but also their faith by singing hymns of praise to God, despite the circumstances they were in.
As it states in Ephesians 5:19, “
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” When we sing and make music from the heart, it becomes more than just sound. It becomes an expression of our faith. Let’s bring music into our lives and into our congregations and use it to express our feelings, faith, and to speak to our heavenly Father in all situations.
