When you think of the word
Christmas, what comes to mind? Is it the gifts wrapped under the tree, the family gatherings, or perhaps a few days off from work? Or do you think of the angel’s announcement of good news to the shepherds:
"For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11)
For some, this season is filled with joy and happiness; for others, it can be the most difficult time of the year. No matter how we feel this season, one truth remains — Christmas is much more than presents, family gatherings, or rest. It is about God’s greatest gift to you and me: Jesus Christ.
Through His birth, Jesus gave us some very precious gifts. These gifts include love, peace, hope, and faith, just to name a few. The question is: What have we done with these gifts?
- Have we shared His love with our neighbour?
- Have we spread Jesus’ peace to those around us?
- Have we shared our hope in Jesus with our family?
- Have we lived a life of faith?
As we reflect on Christ’s life, a life that began in a manger and changed the destiny of all humanity, let us remember that His birth and His life were given for our salvation. Our mission today is to treasure these gifts and share them with everyone. When we do, we will experience the greatest promise of all: eternal life with Him.
We can do this by following Him faithfully, remaining under His word and sacrament, and trusting that through Him we will be saved.
As we celebrate Christmas with family, friends, and neighbours, let us take a few moments to share what Christ’s life means to us — and to remember His promise:
He will come again.
I wish you all a most blessed and peaceful Christmas season.
