For the 2024 Pan-American Youth Summit, the Chief Apostle based the divine service on Romans 8:29. The New Living Translation says it like this:
"For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."
This means God always intended for His people to become like His Son. And we are, in fact, His people, chosen for His purpose long before we were born. And it does not matter where we were born, where we live now, or our life situation.
The Chief Apostle went on to say that through God's plan, He will grow, shape and develop His people to this end - to be like Jesus. But ultimately, it will be our choice. It will come down to whether or not we truly want to become like Christ and serve with Him here on earth and in the beyond in the Thousand-Year Kingdom of Peace, bringing His message of lovingkindness to all who have ever lived.
It's possible that some of our youth may not feel they are worthy of this task, believing it is only for the adults and the “mature in faith.” But God has chosen them for this, regardless of when it happens. And if we back up one more Bible verse, Romans 8:28 tells us this:
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them."
This means your past mistakes, decisions, or anything that makes you feel unworthy of this incredible task doesn't define who you are when you love God. He will work ALL things for your good to help you become like Jesus because you are chosen for this work with Him.
Let's ensure our youth know this and already lay this foundation in our Sunday School children so they grow together knowing our loving, merciful, and gracious God. Even if you only have one Sunday School child where you live, God has chosen them for this future work, too!
