Pentecost 2023

Author: Apostle F. Dzur
May 2023

On Sunday, May 28, 2023, we will celebrate Pentecost together and will be connected to a worldwide broadcast of the divine service conducted by our Chief Apostle Schneider from Cape Town, South Africa. For this occasion, all District Apostles and District Apostle Helpers will be present and the worldwide church represented. Together with them, we will connect in spirit with all our brothers and sisters.

On Pentecost, we commemorate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. As children of God, we have been reborn out of water and the Spirit. Each of us has been given the same gift, the gift of the Holy Spirit which gives us the same possibility to be transformed into the image of Christ and enter the kingdom of God as firstlings. All reborn children of God are given the exact same gift, chance and possibility. It is not dependent on the conditions we live in or face; rich or poor, healthy or sick, young or old, nor the congregation we belong to. God loves us, has called us, wants to save us and has provided the gift of the Holy Spirit. This outpouring upon us opens the way to our salvation upon Christ’s return.

After the Apostle Peter’s powerful sermon on Pentecost, the response was “What shall we do?” (Acts 2:37-38). The Lord tells us if we want to be transformed into the image of Christ and want to enter the kingdom of God as a firstling it is possible! If this is our desire, God will provide all we need to accomplish this. Our faith and will to do so are foundational, and God will give us all we need. God is faithful and will deliver us from the evil one. He is our Father, and we can come to Him in prayer with everything that concerns us. He will listen and help.

The Holy Spirit continues to lead, awaken, inspire and reveal through word and sacrament. The godly life placed in us is nourished and grows. Let us continue to give room to the Holy Spirit so that we can develop in the first fruits of the Spirit and grow into the image of Christ.
