The love of God

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:9 NIV).

As stated in our Catechism, the love of God, which still covered humankind even after the fall into sin, was revealed perfectly through the sending of His Son, Jesus Christ, who came and defeated sin (1 John 3: 8, CNAC 4.2.1.2). I hope you can celebrate and experience this love during the Easter season.

The love of God is a critical element of our church’s mission statement, “Providing soul care and cultivating a warm fellowship in which everyone shall experience the love of God.” This gives us a prescription for our time together as Christians, especially in the congregation.

Thankfully, whether or not you feel God’s love in the fellowship of the congregation, be comforted that He loves you and that no one, including yourself, can diminish the love He has for you!

As a result of our rebirth, which comprises of Holy Baptism with water and Holy Sealing where we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to share the love of God, which has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5: 5). In the words of Canadian Blood Services, “It’s in you to give.”

As love is not only a noun but a verb or action word, let us take care of each other and share the love of God by:

  • being kind and sharing what we have (1 John 3:17)
  • forgiving and reconciling with each other
  • not discriminating but accepting each one as they are, with a love that wants them to achieve salvation

The love of God in us sees in each person a soul that God loves and wants to save.
