THE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS
Posted by: Apostle Frank Dzur
Christmas is almost here! For our children it seems like forever for it to arrive and for us it seems like it was yesterday when we last celebrated. Time does march on.
The Christmas season holds many thoughts, emotions, traditions, and experiences. A time with family and friends, a time of sharing and giving, a time of joy and anticipation, a time where we go out of our way to do a little bit extra. We look a little deeper towards the wants, cares, and needs of others. We may take a little extra time to reach out to provide and help those around us, our family, our neighbours, and our congregations. Some may call this “Christmas Spirit”. Let us never forget that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer who was born, lived His exemplary life, was crucified, died, resurrected, and ascended into heaven, who prepares a place for His own and will return to gather us to Himself.
Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom of our soul, who loves us and has given His life for us so that we may share His glory, who remains our example not only on Christmas but the whole year long. May this spirit of loving, caring, sharing, giving, joy, and peace be active always in us and through us. This becomes the greatest testimony of Christ’s nature and His love developing in us. We remember the direction given in Galatians 6: 10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
There are many around us who find this time of year difficult for various reasons. Let us seize the opportunities to do good, activate the love of Christ and bring joy to one another. As we anxiously await our Christmas celebrations we also continue to wait and prepare for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
