Older and powerful in Christ

“So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.” Psalm 71: 18 (ESV)

To the older and powerful in Christ, Psalm 71 summarizes the life of a faithful soul wanting to make a difference for the Lord. The Apostles hereby ask for your help. Please consider proclaiming God’s might to another generation by teaching them to:

1. Trust the Lord in all things. When youth do questionable things, pray for them. If they fail, be the first to encourage them to trust the Lord and you’ll be seen as a powerful disciple of Christ.

2. Remember God’s strength and protection. Repackage your inspiring experiences of faith into: a rare mailed letter to your grandchild, a post on your family’s group chat or a YouTube video – your story may outlast you and impact one of your descendants.

3. Declare God’s glory. The next time a youth asks “How are you?”, pause, smile, and declare “The Lord is great!” Their smile, or query to your response, will testify how powerful you are in Christ.

4. Serve others. With your great-grandchildren, do a good deed together in God’s name. Repeating your offspring’s Christ-focused story makes the author, listener, God, and you happy.

5. Praise God with music. Search online for a modernized version of your favourite church music and share it with the next generation. If liked, they may be exposed to inspirational lyrics. At a minimum, you are a powerful testifier of Christ.

When thinking about Christ’s call to participate in the Millennium, then even for the oldest person, life together with Christ is just beginning.
