LOVE ONE ANOTHER
Posted by: District Elder Don Emery

In February, a number of provinces celebrate Family Day. It is meant as a day to celebrate with family and to foster relationships.  Sometimes the family unit can become left behind in the ‘busyness’ of our time.  It is important to stop and reflect on what we have and to not let it slip away from us.

Each divine service we celebrate Family Day.  We are together with our God our heavenly Father.  As His children, He draws us together to open His heart.  He nurtures the relationship that He has established.  He tells us that He has always loved us, that He loves us now, and that He loves us so much that He wants us to be with Him for all eternity.  He evidences His love through the merit of His Son and the activity of the Holy Spirit.

He also prompts us with the words to “…love one another; as I have loved you...”   (ref. John 13: 34) This is our responsibility to do.  He loved us first and wants us to reciprocate this love with every soul the way that He loves every soul.  By this, we want to ensure that no one feels neglected or unwanted.

As in the natural family, we all have our differences.  We have different natures, different ways, and different ambitions.  What makes us the same though is that we all carry the same life.   We are all God’s children yet we are different.  What makes us the same is God’s life within us, the striving to take on the nature of Christ and the hope for the same eternity.

Let us focus on the love of family to help each soul with their faith, to have room for every difference and to focus on what we have in common versus where we are different.  May we continually utilize the opportunity to strengthen the bonds of our spiritual family even within our active time.
