CHRIST, OUR FUTURE – IN ACTION

Our Chief Apostle has given us a wonderful motto for 2021: Christ, our future.

As we enter the second half of the year, this word continues to provide hope and peace for those who put their faith and trust in Christ.

John 16 reveals how Christ explained what the future would hold for His disciples after His departure. Much of what Jesus told His disciples caused concern and even grief. Jesus did not tell them these things to scare them, but rather to prepare them for what was to come. This was the reality of what the disciples would have to endure once Jesus left them. However, Christ did not end the conversation there. In verse 33 (NIV) Christ explains, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” And in verse 22 (NIV) He promised, “…I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”

Christ’s return is the essence of our lives. His promise to the disciples applies to all who dedicate their lives to following Christ and His teaching. First and foremost, Christ teaches us to love God and our neighbour. We develop a loving relationship with God by hearing and following His word, receiving the sacraments, and talking to Him openly in our prayers. We show love to our neighbour through acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness.

As 2021 continues to challenge and even grieve so many, let us find peace knowing that Christ overcame the world, His strength abides in us, He will come for those who follow His teaching, and we will rejoice and experience unending joy.
