BE OF GOOD COURAGE
Posted by: Apostle Frank Dzur

Recently our District Apostle Woll was inspired to dedicate an evening as a time for prayer.  This prayer was specifically focused on praying with and for those who are active on the “front lines” as it has been called during this COVID-19 pandemic crisis.  The definition of front line: a military line formed by the most advanced tactical combat units, an area of potential or actual conflict or struggle, the most advanced, responsible, or visible position in a field or activity (Merriam-Webster).

The definition justly describes the many men and women, brothers and sisters, neighbours and friends who every day place themselves in harm's way in many essential services as with the first responders, in hospitals, senior care facilities, clinics, grocery stores, delivery of goods and services and so many more; providing us with that which we require to sustain our lives.  We recognize that behind all of these services stand teams of support workers and their families which every day say goodbye to their loved ones as they leave to do their essential service. We give them our thanks and join together to pray for them.  We lend our support and encourage them.

The District Apostle used an inspiring bible text which I would like to reinforce for all of us out of Isaiah 41: 6, 10:
“Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother, “Be of good courage!”…  …Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”

It requires courage to face danger, to cope in difficult situations, to approach uncertainty, to conquer fear, and move forward.  Our courage comes from our hope, trust, and experience in God. He is the Almighty! He will strengthen and help us to not only get through these times but also to utilize this time for doing good and for acts of kindness.  The Apostle Paul in Galatians 6: 9-10 exhorts us not to grow weary but to continue to do good to all. It is a wonderful statement which can include all of us “everyone has helped his neighbour” and said to his brother “be of good courage”. Let us seize the opportunity to exemplify the love of Christ which is in us, whether it be in our family circle, the brothers and sisters in the congregations, or towards our neighbours and fellowman.
