OCTOBER 2018
YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
Posted by: District Elder Robert Braun

The summer has been full of exciting activities and now the fall season is here. The sun sets earlier, the days feel longer, and this is when the feeling of loneliness and isolation can creep in. It is during these moments when we must remember that we are never forgotten. With this, I would like to address the seniors and retired members of our congregations. Sometimes you may feel forgotten, isolated and alone and this may cause you to be upset. Do not fear for God is with you! We can read in Deuteronomy 31: 8, “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

What a great reassurance this message is for you and me; The Lord will NEVER forget His own!

What can you, a senior, do to help your neighbour or friend who feels forgotten? Here are a few simple things you can do:

  1. Give your neighbour a phone call.
  2. Go for coffee or afternoon tea with someone who is alone.
  3. Write a letter or email and let someone know you are thinking about them.
  4. Invite them to join your senior’s group.

By doing some of these things, we can show our fellow seniors that they are not alone. Furthermore, we also practice the GREAT commandment that the Lord Jesus taught us, in that “…‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12: 31).

We recently celebrated Thanksgiving as a nation. I believe we have all had the time to reflect on the year and not only count but name the blessings that we all have experienced. Let us now go and be a blessing, share our time with our friends who may feel alone and bring them the joy of Christ.
