For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Romans 8:29)

In our natural life, we try every day to become what we want to be. We endeavour to become good children, successful students, idealistic youth, understanding spouses, supportive parents, effective in our profession, and finding our place in our communities. We all know that success requires consistent effort and that there is always room for improvement.

As often seen in the parables of Jesus, the natural laws often align with the spiritual ones. The parable of the sower and the seed, or of the good shepherd and the lost sheep are good examples. In our spiritual pursuits, we also require consistent and applied effort to become what we want to be, an image of the Lord Jesus in our thoughts, love, and our activities.

As God’s children, this all started by God’s predestination of each one of us before anything we knew of even existed. At some point in our lives, He also called us into His work, and His community. This call was our option to answer...and still is! He will not force us to become what we do not want to be.

He called us because He knows we can succeed. There is no doubt that we need His support. He has equipped us with our gifts, with His teachings (from our parents, mentors, and through His word), from His grace, and the grace of others. We have an abundance of resources available to us!!

So when the moments come that distract us, the disasters, the successes, and even when we get tired, let us consciously turn to Him. He is with us and will always provide again. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Remember that God began with us and wants to finish what He has begun. Our path is a narrow one. Simply, we choose Him and His Son, in our thoughts, words, and actions...every day...everywhere...always…

Today we strive to be like Jesus in our daily living. Then we will be like Him when He returns...we will have become what we want to be!!!
