A MOTHER'S GARDEN
Posted by: District Elder James Griesbaum

As Mother’s Day approaches I am personally reminded of this poem that put into great words the love of a Mother...

My mother kept a garden

My mother kept a garden,
a garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things,
that gave my life its start.
She turned me to the sunshine,
and encouraged me to dream;
fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rain came,
she protected me enough-
but not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example
always taught me right from wrong-
markers for my pathway
that will last a lifetime long.
I am my mother's garden,
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me.

What does the Bible tell us about Mothers?  Proverbs 31: 26-27 states: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.

There is so much to learn from the love of a mother and Proverbs gives us all food for thought for our lives. Wisdom is something to strive for; it is a combination of experience and knowledge we have gained in life. However, where does spiritual wisdom come from? Of course, from listening to our heavenly Father through the promptings of the Holy Spirit!

A Mother I know repeated two words to her children over and over again… “be kind”. What a lesson!

To watch and not be idle is the last prompting. It is when our guard is down that we leave ourselves open to inclinations that do not come from above. Let us make our Mother’s proud and implement daily the lessons they have taught us and the lesson we learned from the Bible verse in Proverbs.
