JUNE 2019
OUR PATH
Posted by: District Elder Rob Braun

June is a special month. Firstly, we get to celebrate the birth of our church, the feast of Pentecost. Secondly, we get to experience the changing of a season, from spring to summer. Lastly, we have an opportunity to honour our fathers on Father’s Day. All of these events bring us great excitement.

Father’s Day is special for two reasons. Firstly, it is a time for us to honour our fathers, whether here or in eternity. Secondly, it is a time for us who are fathers, to reflect on the blessings we have received, namely our children. I am reminded of the wise words of King Solomon in Proverbs 22: 6 “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (NIV)

Let’s look at the greatest Father we know, our heavenly Father. He already started us as His children on His path to salvation. How does our heavenly Father guide us along our path?

  • Through the Holy Spirit.
  • Forgives us when we fail.
  • Strengthens and encourages us when we are weak.
  • Grants us grace every day.
These gifts we receive from our heavenly Father is why we bring praise and honor to Him every day. He has started us off on the way we should go, so let us remain on this same path until the sending of Jesus.

We also want to take the time to praise and honour our birth fathers and father figures that we have or have had throughout our lives. Already when we were children, many of our fathers had started us on a path to follow and they supported us.

As we “grow old” as King Solomon said, let us not turn from the path that our Fathers have set for us. Let us also rejoice in the fact that we are loved by our heavenly Father every day!  As His children let us share this love with our neighbour and fulfill this teaching until the return of the Jesus Christ.
