Paris - Decommissioning
On Sunday, August 19, 2018, Bishop Apfelbeck conducted a decommissioning service in the Paris church. The Paris congregation will be amalgamating with the Cambridge Hespeler, Cambridge Preston, and Cambridge Central congregations in a new church building in September. Although it was sad to say goodbye to the church that has been a spiritual home to many over the past forty-two years, there is also a lot of excitement and anticipation for the move to the new church building.
After the divine service, the retired Evangelist W. Wiesel read a history of the Paris congregation. He described how the property, purchased in 1976, was dedicated by the then Apostle Erwin Wagner, and how a new sanctuary had to be constructed on the property when the original building could no longer accommodate the growing congregation. Evangelist Wiesel also mentioned all the milestone divine services that have taken place over the years. He ended his speech with a poignant remark where he said, “As we close this chapter on the church building in Paris, we open a new one to bring new friends to our new location in Cambridge. Let us all carry on with being faithful to Christ.”
