Did you know that Jesus attended school? He did!! At the age of 5 or 6, He began attending school at the local Synagogue. It was called Bet Sefer.

It was important for Him to learn and socialize, just like students today. As we head back to class, whether that is grade school, high school, or post-secondary, our minds can become filled with thoughts. Some positive and full of hope, some, perhaps of worry and stress. What class will I be in? How will I do in my studies? Will I be with my friends? What will my teacher be like?

These thoughts are normal, and even justified, as the unknown can be uncomfortable.

We are comfortable with what we know. We can even become content. While on earth in our natural lives, the future is not clear, many situations and circumstances can derail our plans, our goals, our hopes, spiritually we are confident in the future. We are confident in our heavenly Father.

  • He has promised us forgiveness
  • He has promised us eternal fellowship with Him
  • He has promised us the return of His Son, our Savior
  • The Lord makes good on His promises

How can we balance our educational life with our spiritual life? Here are some tips:

  • Start our day with Him in prayer
  • Love others
  • Enjoy His creation
  • Love ourselves
  • Write down things we are thankful for
  • Make attending church and church activities a priority

We can look to the Bible for comfort and guidance in our lives. 2 Timothy 2: 15 tells us to be diligent, a worker, and understand the truth. This refers to our spiritual life and knowledge, however, it has a practical application to our life as a student. To be diligent in our studies, to work hard, and to gain understanding allow us to be the best we can be. This is a formula for success.
