In the circle of our family life and in the scope of our work, one of the biggest challenges is how to build up a team. Returning to family, if we are united, then our family can have peace and prosper. It is the same in the circle of the Lord’s work, and in the congregations, if we are all united as the body of Christ, then the congregation can have peace and prosper.

With this thought, my attention was brought to the words of our Chief Apostle Schneider as he prepared the brothers to be ordained as Bishops. He used the image of the coach of the team, “The mission of the coach is to form the team and to make sure they play together”.  There are many examples available in the Bible. The first one that comes to my mind is Apostle Paul, he is a coach and his mission was to build up Titus and Timothy. What does he do to build them up? He started with the building of trust and understanding for their situations. When we read the letters that he sends to Timothy, you will see that he was connected to him and treated him like he was his own. He mentored him with patience, careful and thoughtful instruction, and correction. 

The greatest example is the Lord Jesus Himself. He is the truest team builder. When He started His mission; He searched for His disciples and pressed forward to build His team. 

• He shared His responsibilities by sending His disciples and later the Apostles to preach the gospel.


• He built trust. John 15: 15 “… I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you”. Through this trust, it creates a relationship. 


• He built up unity and oneness. His prayer was John 17: 21 “that they all may be one…”. Through this oneness brings the ability to succeed in teamwork. 


• The Lord Jesus did not credit Himself for the work that was done. John 14: 12 “…the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Through these examples of the Lord Jesus, He teaches us how to work with each other. He teaches us to view our brothers and sisters in a positive light and that everyone can contribute to the growth in the work of our Lord. 

We read in Mark 6: 38 “…’How many loaves do you have? Go and see.’ And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.” And further, Mark 6: 44 “Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men”.  The Lord Jesus reinforces that we can even experience miracles by using what we have been given from our Lord. What a profound experience for the disciples and for all who were present. Let us actively engage the gifts and talents of our brothers and sisters to build the work of salvation. The Lord Jesus reaffirms the message that we can be confident that our future is secure.
