JULY 2017
OH CANADA - 150 YEARS
Posted by: District Elder Don Emery

This is a special year for our country as we celebrate its 150th birthday.  When we look at our country we have reason to say that we are truly blessed.  Many people throughout the world would love to live here although they may have never tasted our lovely winter season!

As New Apostolic Christians it is important to be cognisant of what we have as this is the beginning of thankfulness.  Let us consider a few points.

  • Our country is rich in resources and is fertile.  Our prairies have been called the breadbasket of the world, our resources provide us with economic stability.  This has allowed us to support many nations where the gospel was spread and the Lord’s work established.

  • We have freedom of speech and religion so we can freely practice and speak of what we believe.

  • We have a stable and peaceful government which allows us to live in peace and we are well provided for.

  • We have strong social systems that provide for those in need.  Already our nation practices “Love your neighbour.”

  • We have a beautiful landscape and a protected environment which provides us with wonderful things to see and do.  This environment is healthy to live in.  God created this for us, gave us dominion over it and wants us to experience its beauty and to take care of it.
I am sure that each one of us could list more items of the blessings of living in Canada.  Yes, everything is not perfect here, but when we make a list of the blessings we then realize how much we have to be thankful for.  Let us celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday with joy and pride, and with the daily realization; the Lord has richly blessed us.
