SEPTEMBER 2018
LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME
Posted by: District Elder Don Emery

September is a time when we think of our children as they return to school and to Sunday School.  We bring our children to these places because we want the best for them.  Jesus loves our children as is seen in His expression, “Let the little children come to Me…” He too wants the best for them; He offers them eternal life.

The question arises, who will bring our children to Christ?  As parents, it should be our desire to bring them to Christ.  We want to bring them to Sunday School whenever there is a class so that they have every opportunity to learn of Him.  We also want to bring them to know and experience Christ in their lives.  This takes time and effort, but it is so worthwhile.

To bring our children to Christ, the fire of the gospel must first burn in us.  If we have it then we can share it with them.  The Sunday School teachers alone cannot do this as they only nurture our children for a few hours a month.  We have the opportunity to share this fire with our children on a daily basis.

We teach the fire of the gospel when we show our children the love of Christ and what He has done for us in our lives.  We teach them how to pray so that their relationship with God grows.  We teach them the value of salvation so that they learn that Jesus is precious and that they have something very special in their faith. We show them the activity of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in our congregations so that they see the value of the congregation and the need to be a part of it.  In this way, we equip them with the tools needed to make an informed decision for Christ on the day of their Confirmation and to then continue to live a life with Christ.

As Jesus expressed his love for our children we also want to express our love for them by bringing them to Christ so that they can experience the greatest gift; eternal life.
