Sunday School Children Prepare for Service for the Departed
Sunday, February 24, 2013

The children in the Paris congregation prepared for the Service for the Departed by decorating the altar. For the Preparatory Service for the Departed the children created artificial candle decorations using battery operated t-lights.

The decoration symbolized the following:

1)      Circle of friends

2)      Circle of love

3)      Circle of prayer

In the Sunday School class the children learned about praying for those in eternity. The teacher took them into a dark room with only one t-light candle lit and called each child to come over to her. The child was given their own candle and it was turned  on. As the number of children brought over increased and more candles were turned on, the brighter the room became. This symbolized the many prayers that we can pray for those in eternity.

For the Service for the Departed, the children created lanterns with battery operated t-lights. Each child was asked who they were specifically praying for and Priest Wiesel prayed with them and mentioned each one by name. The children were able to experience the value of this important service.
