Update - Myanmar Disaster
Dear Brothers and
Sisters,
|
 |
By now most have seen reports and accounts of the devastating cyclone
which ripped through Myanmar on May 2, 2008. The country has
been torn apart also in the last year with protests against the
military-led government. These protests ended in violence with
mass arrests. Christian populations also are subject to
persecutions in their daily life. We can already read the
challenges facing foreign aid workers who have been delayed in obtaining
visas to bring aid into Myanmar. With the extensive damage to
basic infrastructure and a volatile political atmosphere, assisting
those who are desperate and suffering devastating loss of loved ones,
food, property and livelihood will prove to be extremely
difficult.
An Apostle from a nearby region under the support of New Apostolic
Church Canada will travel to Myanmar to begin to account for our members
and to assess what can be done to help. This Apostle will carry
with him aid so that he can immediately assist where possible.
Communication is extremely difficult with many regions completely
cut-off. We have not yet heard from the Apostle David or the
members who reside in Myanmar.
Please pray for our fellow brothers and sisters in Myanmar and for
the safety of the Apostle on this journey.
Sincerely,
Leslie Latorcai
